Week of July 27th

It's best to water early in the day.  Watering later in the day often evaporates quickly in the heat, can burn the foliage of plants, and if done too late in the day can promote fungal disease. Inconsistent watering during hot, dry weather results in bitter cucumbers.

Harvest large broccoli heads leaving small side shoots for a later season harvest.

Baby Summer Squash have a superior flavor to large squashes.

Stop feeding your rose bushes in July. As we approach August and autumn we need to help roses slow down and take a rest before the winter.

Watch for Japanese Beetles on roses, beans, grapes, using insecticidal soap and hand removal to control. This can be done in early morning or evening when they are least active.
